Climate

The climate for the Temple of Poseidon has a Mediterranean sclerophyll shrub biome. It has hot and dry summers and stormy winters. The average temperature in the month of May in Athens ( I couldn't get actual temps for Sounion) is about 77 degrees. Having both dry and moist season there is an average of 1.25 inches of precipitation. The dry climate comes from the subtropical high pressure zone, which is the fall, summer, and spring months. The winter months is because of the polar front and the mid-latitude cyclone storms. The subtropical high pressure zone is an area of high pressure that starts at about 30 degrees north and south latitude. The mid-latitude cyclone storms are storm that forms mostly in the middle latitudes. Its formation is triggered by troughs forming in the polar jet stream.

From sunny to Thunderstorms

The wind is blowing as you can see on this crazy bearded guys shirt.

Europe and the US have the same conterminous storm type, it moves west to east because of the polar jet stream. The temple of Poseidon has been known for having gusty winds. Wind is caused from different local temperatures, for example having a high and low pressure system.

In the picuture here you can see that there is a thunderstorm brewing.
Airmass thunderstorms are usually created by an uplift of warm and unstable air. The temple of Poseidon is still used today for loved to look at the sea for loved ones.

The amazing temple

The temple of Poseidon is located at 37.65° N, 24.03° E in Attica, Greece. The temple is located on what looks like a huge cliff. The cliff looks like it could have been cause by two different types of faults, compression or expansion. I believe that it is a result from a compression fault, as you can see in this picture. With the steep cliff formed from the compression it has made visiting the temple a little tricky for visitors who are a little bit clumsy since there aren’t any guard rails. Rocks that make up the ground surrounding the temple are sedimentary rocks as you can see all of the different layers that are shown throughout the wall of rock.

One of the most amazing parts of the Temple of Poseidon is the magnificent sunrises and sunsets. These great moments of beauty are from how the earth is tilted on its axis and how it is revolving around the sun. The different color moons can be attributed to dust particles in the earths atmosphere.

Introduction

I'm Jourdan Ortiz

I chose the Temple of Poseidon in Cape Sounion, Greece as my location. I chose this location because I have a huge interest in Europe and mostly Greece and Italy. I have never traveled to Europe before, and I hope to be able to learn about all of the physical geography. That way I know when I one day get to travel there, I’ll be able to look at my surroundings and be able to identify each form and know the process that caused it to form.
